Who is Douglas Kruger? Douglas Kruger is a full-time professional speaker, author and trainer, known for his 'Rules of Hamster Thinking.' He is a resident of Johannesburg, but speaks all over the world. Douglas attended Allen Glen High School in Weltevreden Park, where he was the Head Boy in his Senior Year and took double Full-Colours for Public Speaking. He holds a BA Degree in Communication through Unisa. Douglas has been a member of Toastmasters International; the public speaking body; since 1998 and is also currently a member of the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa. At the age of 20, he was the youngest person ever to represent Africa at the Public Speaking World Championships, in Anaheim, California. This was his first trip to the States as Africa’s representative. By 2009, he had done it five separate times, a Toastmasters record. In 2004, competing in Reno, Nevada, he achieved the highest ranking Africa has ever attained at this prestigious contest, placing 2nd in the world. He was 23 at the time. Writing is one of Douglas’s greatest passions. In addition to the stream of articles published in magazines like 'Entrepreneur' and 'Sales Guru,' he is the author of three books: 50 Ways to Become a Better Speaker 50 Ways to Position Yourself as an Expert; and 'So You're in Charge. Now What'? 52 Ways to Become a Better Leader (co-authored with Tony Cross). Douglas has hosted radio shows on stations like SAfm, Talk Radio 702 and Radio Midrand. Because of his full-time speaking career, he no longer works in radio, but misses it dearly, and continues to do voice-over work for commercials. He has a love for travel, reading, bodybuilding, theatre, and disgustingly fast cars! In 2010, he was made the Face of Ford in a series of television ads. He has completed advanced driver training through Audi, and Mercedes Benz AMG. His favourite shows are Frasier, Scrubs, CSI, Boston Legal and Top Gear. He is married to Vanessa Kruger, and they currently have two dogs and two cats. One of the cats has an attitude problem, but he loves her anyway!
